Performing Arts Center for Bakersfield College, Bakersfield, CA
A complete gutting of the 1950’s building leaving only the shell, which was seismically upgraded inside and out. Concrete walls were braced, roof trusses reinforced, state of the art acoustical sound clouds helped to finish out the inside of the theater. All seating was reconfigured to maximize the pleasure of the audience. Outside, the existing amphitheater was razed except for the tiered concrete seating, and a new superstructure with roof surrounds the stage, complete with lighting and sound catwalks throughout. Curved steel sunscreen panels surrounded the amphitheater to create an intimate outdoor theater, great for musicals and concerts.
